ORAL EXAMS – SCANNING FOR ORAL CANCER
Regular Dental Exam for Excellent Oral Health
At Rod W. Gore DDS, PC, Dr. Rod Gore takes dental examinations very seriously. These exams are a part of our preventive dental care services and often the first step in determining if there are any serious problems or issues.
During the dental oral exam at our Scottsdale clinic, the team will thoroughly assess a patient’s mouth to determine a patient’s oral health. They will utilize state-of-the-art technology, such as digital X-rays and digital panoramic X-ray images to get a clear picture of the condition of the mouth.
Dental examinations are also used to screen for oral cancer, so if it’s detected early enough, a patient will have a much better prognosis and more treatment options. Dr. Gore uses the advanced Veloscope® oral cancer screening tool to show abnormalities that might be missed by a visual exam or even X-rays.
It’s advised that a patient have a dental exam at least once a year to maintain proper oral health and sustain a GOREgeous smile.
Benefits of Regular Dental Exams
- Detects dental issues early
If you don’t miss your scheduled dental exams, your dentist can spot concerns that could turn into more serious oral health problems down the line. Otherwise, you might not notice these burgeoning problems until they’re serious.
- Saves your teeth
You only have one set of permanent or adult teeth, so it’s important to preserve it as long as possible. With regular dental exams, your trusted Scottsdale dentist can save your teeth from permanent tooth loss in case of decay.
- Prevents tooth decay and gum disease
Tooth decay and gum disease are two of the oral health issues that can be prevented with regular dental exams. The earlier your dentist detects either or both, the easier they are to treat.
- You learn more about oral health
With regular dental oral exams, your dentist will be able to give you advice on proper oral hygiene and health habits. The best thing about this is the advice you’re going to get will be personalized.
- Saves money in the long run
With your oral health in great condition, thanks to preventive dental exam services, you won’t need to undergo expensive dental procedures.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The dental exam will be done to evaluate your overall oral health, including that of your teeth, gums, and jaw.
Your Scottsdale dentist will begin with a visual inspection of your mouth followed by an X-Ray scan for a more thorough look. These procedures will allow your dentist to assess different parts of your mouth and diagnose if there are cavities, decay, or diseases in your mouth.
Apart from these preliminary tests, your dental oral exam will also include oral cancer screening. Here, the dentist will use the Veloscope® oral cancer screening system. Depending on the state of your teeth, you may also opt for regular teeth cleaning.
Once all of these tests are done, your dentist will review the results and discuss any issues or concerns if there are any. We will also recommend oral care options for you.
After your regular oral exam, keep up good oral hygiene. Brush and floss regularly, and eat teeth-healthy foods. We also highly recommend scheduling regular dental exams, which can happen at least once a year (preferably twice) to ensure optimal oral health.
Our oral exam dental services are usually covered by your health insurance up to 100%. Our Scottsdale office will consult with your provider regarding this matter. If you need to pay out of pocket, we have different payment plans, which we can discuss during our consultation.
