Dentistry for Kids

Adorable and young girl sitting in a dental chair and smiling at her dentist and dental assistantSometimes children may be afraid to go to the dentist, but as a parent, you have to ensure your child sees a pediatric dentist regularly to avoid early dental cavities. At GOREgeous Smiles, our pediatric dentist and staff are well equipped to work with children and help make their visit to the dentist a pleasant one. We have years of experience and know how to deal with kids' anxiety and fear concerning dental checkups.

Why Do Kids Fear Going to the Dentist?

Understanding why your child fears going to the dentist will help you better understand them and know how to deal with their concerns. When you come in for an appointment with your child, we encourage you to carry their favorite toy with them. This will greatly help ease their tension and help them stay happy while they wait for their turn to see the dentist.

When most kids think of a dentist, they picture big needles and drills. This can increase their anxiety, but our pediatric dentists ensure that kids are comfortable and understand that nothing will harm them. We talking to the kids and explain what we are doing and what our dental tools are for; this helps them know what to expect and creates a calmer environment for them.

How Do I Help My Child Overcome Dental Anxiety?

Just like adults, children can also have dental fear and anxiety. But when you practice bringing your child to a pediatrician as early as their teeth start to show, it will significantly help combat their fear as time goes by. This is because your child will get used to a dentist's chair and seeing equipment around the clinic. Also, watch what you say to your child when coming for an appointment. Avoid words like "pain" and "injections." Instead, tell them we are going to check their smile or something else that will not increase their fear.

What Should I Expect When I Take My Child to the Dentist?

When you bring your child to our office, the dentist may want to know a few things to proceed with their examination or treatment. We will want to know your child's medical history. That is, if they have experienced any dental problems in the past. We will then run a quick test to determine if they have any oral issues like cavities, gum disease, or jaw problems.

You will also get some tips on cleaning your child's teeth and what to use. Apart from that, your child's teeth alignment will be checked, and the dentist can determine if braces are necessary. Normally, the dentist will run several tests on your child over a certain period to ensure we treat the right dental problem.
